MOFCOM Held National Video Conference 2013 on Business Concerning Mechanic, Electronic and Hi-tech Industry

National Video Conference 2013 on Business Concerning Mechanic, Electronic and Hi-tech Industry was held by MOFCOM on March 14. Mr. Jiang Yaoping, Vice Minister of Commerce, attended and addressed the Conference.

The Conference pointed out that in 2012, mechanic, electronic and hi-tech industry,focusing on “stabilizing growth, adjusting structures and promoting balance”, have launched a lot of fruitful works and made a contribution to the steady growth of China's foreign trade as well as adjusting the structure. Imports and exports of mechanic and electronic products in 2012 was US$ 1.96 trillion, up by 6.7%, and the growth rate was 0.5 percentage point higher as compared with that of national foreign trade. Among that, the growth rate of exports of mechanic and electronic products was 0.8 percentage point higher than that of national foreign trade exports, accounting for 57.6% and 62.4% of total foreign trade exports and incrementsand has maintained the status of the largest category of exported commodities for 18 consecutive years. High-tech products and high value added products, such as electricity and communications equipment, automobiles, locomotives and airplanes have become new growth parts.The proportion of exports of mechanic and electronic products in central and western China increased to 11.7%, while that of private enterprises increased to 23.6%.Exports of mechanic and electronic products in 5 enterprises surpassed 10 billion Yuan Yuan while in other 122 enterprises, exports exceeded US$1 billion. The export of mechanic and electronic products from January to November in 2012 increased to 16.1% of the global exports, and mechanic and electronic productswere exported to more than 220 countries and regions, up to 29.1% in emerging markets.

The Conference believed that import and export of mechanic, electronic and high-tech products and the processing trade has a very important position in China's foreign trade. Imports andexports of mechanic and electronic products in 2012 accounted for 50.7% of foreign trade and imports and exports of processing trade accounted for 34.8%, which was the important carrier and driving force to promote structure adjustment of foreign trade, change the mode of development as well as improve the quality and efficiency of foreign trade. The Conference required that national commercial systems of mechanic, electronic and hi-tech industry should seriously concentrate on the overall situation and main tasks of commercial work, regard changing the mode of development as the main line,practicallyboostforeign trade through science and technology, market diversification and quality strategy, and focus on doing seven tasks: 1. to actively implement and improve policies, and to stabilize the export of mechanic, electronicand high-tech products; 2. to vigorously implement the strategy of market diversification and actively support enterprises to explore international market; 3.to concentrate on key industries and products and to optimize the export structure; 4.to maintain the stability of policies on processing trade, and to steadily push forward the upgrading of processing trade; 5. to implement positive import strategy and to play a supporting role for structural adjustment; 6. to deepen implementation the strategy ofboostingforeign trade through science and technology, and to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in key industries; 7. topragmatically do a good job in export control work, and to maintain national security and industrial interests.

Responsible officials from the departments of the State Council, Department of Mechanic, Electronic and Hi-tech Industry, provincial governments, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government, municipalities separately listed in the state planning, Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, Chambers of Commerce, and Associations attended the conference in main meeting-place and branch meeting place.
